For A 50% Rise in 2014 Minimum Wage!

After waves and series of national and local action since 3 September up to 16 September 2013 in Jakarta, Jabodetabek, Bandung, Surabaya, Medan, Batam, Semarang demanding 50% rise in minimum wage, Indonesian workers are ready to get back to the street again in bigger masses and longer mass action which will reach it’s final climax on “Nationwide General Strike 2013” in the end of October.

All elements of working class in national level who are consolidating under Preparation Committee for National Consolidation including workers’ organizations, alliances, or unity groups, from factoryy level, city, municipals, and province level, affirmed: do not mess with the workers and the struggle to fight for 50% rise in 2014 minimum wage rise.

Workers welfare must be improved by improving minimum wage. All this time, workers capability in buying daily goods are far from wealthy level and even 2013 minimum wage rise were not be able to be enjoyed by the workers since oil price hike last time have lowered workers’ ability in buying daily goods down to 30%. We assessed, all this time Indonesian economic growth is in good condition, Indonesia even became the main center of world’s investment, therefore government’s low wage policy which is being supported by APINDO (Indonesian Employers Association) and “Black Employers” should be drop. 50% rise for minimum wage in national level and 3,7 million rupiahs for Jakarta’s minimum wage is a proper and appropriate thing. Based on quick count conducted by KSPI from Decent Life Needs (KHL), a single worker’s needs reach Rp 3.772.000,-.

All workers elements in national level which are consolidating under Preparation Committee for National Consolidation, affirmed and insisting on two struggle issues, i.e.:

1.50% rise in nationwide minimum wage and 3,7 million rupiahs for Jakarta’s minimum wage on 1 January 2014.

2.Making sure that government is not implementing “modern slavery” working system in Indonesia, in other words, the eradication of Outsourching and Casualization/Contract Employment System, including the eradication in State Owned Enterprised and make all outsourced employee in state owned enterprise as permanent workers.

On further measures to actualize 50% rise in minimum wage rise for local and Rp3  3,7 million for Jakarta, Preparation Committee for National Consolidation have prepare these measures:

  1. All workers elements in the national level which are consolidating under Preparation Committee for National Consolidation will hold National Mass Gathering on 28-29 September 2013 where 1.000 workers activists will participate to prepare Nationwide General Strike in the end of October.
