On The Results of Workers Movement National Consolidation

50 workers’ organization in national level and 100 workers’ organization in regional level from 100 regencies and or municipalities from 18 provinces today gathered to declare their unity in the struggle to achieve 50% rise in minimum wage on national level and 3,7 million rupiahs for Jakarta.

KSPI’s President Said Iqbal said, the coalition of national and regional trade unions consolidated three days general strike in a row starting from 30 October which will be declared today in HI (Hotel Indonesia) roundabout.

Iqbal explained further, in this nationwide general strike, three millions workers will be mobilized in 20 provinces which will put hundreds of thousands of factories, harbors, and airports on halt. According to him, this nationwide general strike is a ‘welcoming’ action since on 1st of November the goverment will announce that the minimum wage rise will happen next year.

Nevertheless, he emphasized that this action will be a peaceful act, not a hate speech but only a will to fight for 50% rise in minimum wage (based on 84 items on daily needs for a decent life), to demand the carrying out of universal health care for people start from 1st January 2004 not gradually on 1st January 2019 with The Number of Aid Receiving People (PBI): 156 millions people, and to erase casualization, outsourcing, and contract system including those in state owned enterprises (BUMN).

He also explained, workers demands all workers in wage councils to commit an act of walkout in national wage meeting if next year’s minimum wage rise is below 50% on national level and 3,7 million rupiahs for Jakarta. He also instructed all workers in wage councils to attend wage councils’ meeting in thousands masses.
